Voiceover Internet Protocol (VoIP)

A form of software that allows for customers to use an internet connection to make phone calls as opposed to a phone line.

The software converts your voice into the form of a digital signal, that then broadcasts across the internet. Before the signal completes the journey, it transforms into a regular telephone signal.

VoIP also allows you to call straight from your computer, a VoIP specific phone and the traditional telephone that is linked to a particular adapter.

Wireless hotspots within public places can enable users to connect with VoIP as well.
