Worldwide Web Consortium

An international community made out of “member organizations, a full-time staff and the public”;  they work as a team to develop Web standards, defined by WWW as an “open web platform for application development that has the unprecedented potential to enable developers to build rich interactive experiences”.

It was founded by Sir Tim Berners-Lee in 1994, the same person who invented the World Wide Web.

They abide by the Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct which is used by the community to give them an understanding of “accepted and acceptable” behaviours and “to promote high standards of professional practice”. The Code can also be used to reflect upon and as a way of self-evaluating.
